Outsourcing Web Development to India from the UK, EU, UAE or USA
Data protection, contracts, time zones and payments: what international clients should check before hiring an Indian development team.

India has some of the world’s best software talent, and many businesses in the UK, Europe, the UAE and North America get excellent value by working with Indian development teams. Some also have bad experiences: missed deadlines, poor communication or unclear ownership. Almost all of those problems can be avoided with the right questions and contract. This guide covers what to check.
1. Data protection: GDPR, UK GDPR and others
If your website or app processes personal data of people in the EU or UK, GDPR applies to you regardless of where your developer is based. When an Indian company processes that data for you, they are your processor, and you need:
- A data processing agreement (in Germany, an AVV) setting out what data is processed, why and how it is protected.
- A lawful transfer mechanism for any personal data accessed from India, typically the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.
- Hosting in the EU or UK where possible, so production data stays there and developers work with anonymised test data.
Similar principles apply under Canada’s PIPEDA, the UAE’s Personal Data Protection Law and US state laws such as the CCPA. India’s own Digital Personal Data Protection Act also sets obligations for Indian companies handling personal data.
2. Contract and intellectual property
- IP assignment: the contract should assign all code, designs and content to your company on payment.
- Confidentiality: sign an NDA before sharing detailed plans.
- Milestones: tie payments to delivered, working milestones rather than time alone.
- Accounts in your name: domains, hosting, app store accounts and repositories should belong to you.
- Governing law: agree which law and jurisdiction apply.
3. Time zones work in your favour
| Region | Difference from India (IST) | Best overlap |
|---|---|---|
| UAE | India is 1.5 hours ahead | Almost the whole working day |
| UK | India is 4.5–5.5 hours ahead | UK morning, India afternoon |
| Germany / Central Europe | India is 3.5–4.5 hours ahead | European morning to early afternoon |
| US East Coast | India is 9.5–10.5 hours ahead | US morning, India evening |
| Australia (Sydney) | India is 4.5–5.5 hours behind | Australian afternoon, India morning |
Teams that plan around the overlap get a bonus: work continues while you sleep, so you wake up to progress.
4. Communication habits that prevent problems
- A named project lead who speaks with you directly.
- Written specifications and acceptance criteria before development.
- Weekly demos of working software, not just status reports.
- A shared project board so you can see what is in progress.
5. Accessibility and local rules
Ask for WCAG 2.1 AA compliance. It supports the European Accessibility Act, the UK’s public sector rules, ADA expectations in the US and the AODA in Ontario. For Germany, also plan for the Impressum and DSGVO-compliant cookie consent.
How we work with international clients
Pixel Insource works with clients in the UK, Germany and the EU, the UAE, the USA and Canada. We sign NDAs and data processing agreements, assign IP in the contract, host in your region and run weekly demos. Our founder spent over three years at TCS on enterprise systems for HDFC Life and ABN AMRO, and we bring that discipline to every project.
